Roots & Routes

 Experiencing the Spirit of Georgia

As part of the ongoing Roots & Routes project, participants gathered in Leiden for a special Georgian Cultural Night, an evening dedicated to exploring the traditions, heritage, and unique cultural identity of Georgia. The event brought together young people from different backgrounds, creating a welcoming space for intercultural dialogue, learning, and connection.

Cultural nights play an important role within the Roots & Routes project by providing opportunities for participants to discover new perspectives and celebrate the diversity that exists within the community. The Georgian Cultural Night offered a chance to learn more about a country known for its rich history, strong traditions, and remarkable hospitality.

Throughout the evening, participants were introduced to different aspects of Georgian culture, including traditions, customs, and stories that have shaped the country’s identity over centuries. Through informal discussions and cultural exchange, attendees gained a deeper understanding of Georgia while sharing their own experiences and perspectives.

One of the highlights of the event was the opportunity to explore the values that connect people across cultures. Conversations focused on family, community, friendship, and the importance of preserving cultural heritage while embracing diversity. Participants discovered that despite coming from different countries and backgrounds, many traditions and values remain surprisingly similar.

The event also created space for meaningful interaction among participants. These moments reflected the core mission of Roots & Routes: bringing people together through shared experiences and creating stronger, more inclusive communities.

Beyond learning about Georgia itself, the activity encouraged participants to reflect on the importance of intercultural understanding in today’s increasingly connected world. By engaging directly with different cultures, young people can challenge stereotypes, develop empathy, and build relationships based on mutual respect.

The Georgian Cultural Night once again demonstrated how culture can serve as a powerful tool for connection. Through dialogue, participation, and curiosity, participants not only discovered the spirit of Georgia but also strengthened the sense of community that continues to grow within the Roots & Routes project.

As the project moves forward, more cultural activities will continue to celebrate the diversity of the participants while creating opportunities for learning, friendship, and collaboration. Events like this remind us that every culture has a story worth sharing and that every shared story helps bring people closer together.
