Our time in Buşteni for the “Level-Up Media Literacy” project was a profound lesson in seeing potential in the way we consume and create digital information. Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Bucegi Mountains, we were reminded that the messages we build—and the media footprint we leave behind—carry a lasting legacy. As we gathered in Romania from January 30th to February 3rd, 2026, the mission felt urgent: in an era of information overload, our goal was to transform passive consumption into active, critical creativity.
The process began with a deep dive into the six main concepts of media literacy: Access, Analyze, Evaluate, Create, Reflect, and Act. This theoretical foundation ensured that when we stepped into our workshops, we weren’t just playing games; we were seeking a meaningful response to the challenges of the modern digital landscape. We explored how media shapes our attention, beliefs, and behaviors, forcing us to confront the consumption patterns that drive our culture.
Living in the shared environment of Vila Doi Ponei further reinforced these values of collaboration and proactive engagement. We managed our intensive 6-hour daily sessions carefully, shared meals, and utilized outdoor spaces to bond with peers from across the European Union. This intercultural environment turned every networking session and evening conversation into an opportunity to discuss the future of media education. We have returned home with more than just new skills; we have a renewed commitment to promoting transparency and critical thinking that we will carry into our own communities.
