Solidarity in Action: Proxymeeti Kicks Off in Leiden
Stichting yEUth is proud to serve as the supporting organisation for Proxymeeti, an inspiring local youth initiative funded through the European Solidarity Corps. Based in Leiden, the project brings together international residents, migrants, students, and locals through non-formal language exchanges and community gatherings. By offering welcoming spaces where people can practice languages and build connections, Proxymeeti helps break down social distance and make newcomers feel at home.
The project officially launched with a productive kickoff meeting to set key plans in motion. The team aligned on the main goals for the upcoming year, established the project’s visual identity and branding, and agreed on clear administrative guidelines to meet European Solidarity Corps standards. Operations will follow a monthly rhythm that mixes online language sessions with in-person activities in Leiden, creating accessible ways for everyone to participate.
Over the course of the initiative, participants will take part in open language learning spaces and intercultural events, including community potlucks. The team will also capture the stories, language notes, and creative work produced during these gatherings to publish a digital handbook near the end of the project. This free resource, alongside a dedicated Discord community hub, will serve as a lasting reference for social connection in Leiden.
Proxymeeti is now preparing for its first rounds of outreach and upcoming language meetups. Stichting yEUth looks forward to providing ongoing administrative guidance as this youth-led team works to bring cultures closer together.
