In September 2025, I had the opportunity to take part in an Erasmus+ youth exchange project called Fearless, organized by Proactive Future. The project took place in the beautiful region of Asturias in northern Spain, surrounded by mountains, forests, and lakes. It brought together a divorce group of young people from across Europe. 7 participants each from Spain, Portugal, Greece, Italy, Ukraine, and the Netherlands. with the aim of exploring courage, stepping out of our comfort zones, and living a healthy lifestyle.
Throughout the week, we engaged in workshops, group discussions, and outdoor activities designed to help us reflect on fear, self-confidence, and cooperation. Some of the biggest highlights for me were the vivac (sleeping outdoors under the stars), the hike through the mountains, and above all, connecting with everyone in the group. These experiences pushed me in different ways and created unforgettable memories.
For me personally, my biggest fears weren’t about the physical challenges but about the social side — meeting so many people from so many different cultures all at once. My intention during the project was to stay as authentic as possible, and by doing so I managed to have a profound experience that allowed me to grow in many aspects of my life.
Through Fearless, I felt truly introduced into the local Asturian culture — whether it was through the food, traditions, or the passion of the local organizers and participants. Experiencing this firsthand made me more enthusiastic and curious, while also inspiring me to reflect on and share my own culture with pride.
Evenings often included intercultural nights, where each country presented traditions, dances, food, and stories. Talking about and showing my own culture and heritage and learning about others helped me feel not only more connected to Europe, but also more rooted in my own cultural identity. These evenings made me feel very connected to people and we all had a lot of fun and memorable moments.
Through Fearless, I developed greater confidence, leadership, openness, and the ability to connect with my inner child. I practiced being spontaneous, expressing myself through movement and activities, and learning to live not led by fears but by passions. This project also helped me to accept myself more fully and to build meaningful connections with others.
For me, Fearless was not just about overcoming challenges but about living authentically. Overcoming the fear of being vulnerable. It showed me that life isn’t about living fearless at all. I have a lot of fears and I always will. It’s not about not having fears, it’s about even though I feel fear still deciding to go through it.
The friends and contacts I made continue to inspire and motivate me — we push each other to keep living in the “fearless” way even after the project ended. I came home with new friendships, stronger communication skills, and the motivation to continue stepping outside of my comfort zone.
I feel deeply grateful to have been part of Fearless, and I will carry its lessons and memories with me as I continue on my path of growth and self-discovery.
