Stichting yEUth is excited to look back on a vibrant intercultural evening celebrating the culture of Scotland! On Tuesday, 13th May 2025, participants gathered in Leiden for an engaging and interactive event featuring Scottish traditions, flavors, and dance. The “Scottish Intercultural Night” brought together community members and curious minds for a joyful exploration of Scotland’s rich cultural heritage.
The evening kicked off with a dynamic presentation highlighting Scotland’s history, regional customs, and the unique Scots and Gaelic languages. Participants got a glimpse into the cultural identity of the Highlands and Lowlands alike, learning fun facts, national quirks, and the symbolism behind kilts and tartans.
Afterward, guests were treated to a tasting of traditional Scottish food and drinks. On the menu: haggis (with a vegetarian option), shortbread, and of course, the famously fluorescent Irn Bru. The tasting sparked lively conversation and was a highlight for many who had never tried these flavors before.
The cultural journey continued with a hands-on Ceilidh dance session—a traditional form of social dancing in Scotland. With no prior experience needed, participants quickly found themselves twirling, clapping, and laughing together in simple group dances led by an enthusiastic instructor.
This active and playful segment of the evening created an atmosphere of connection and shared joy, perfectly aligning with Stichting yEUth’s values of intercultural exchange and community engagement.
Stichting yEUth is proud to have hosted this celebration of Scottish culture and thanks everyone who attended and helped make the night a success. Events like these are at the heart of our mission: creating spaces for youth and community members to connect, learn, and grow through culture.
